McALLEN, Texas – South Texas College (STC) Theatre & Dance will hold auditions for the 4thAnnual South Texas New Play Festival’s stage readings.
In-person auditions will be held on Wednesday, May 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the STC Cooper Center for Performing Arts – Main Stage at 3200 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen. All STC and Rio Grande Valley community members, ages 18 and over, are welcome to audition. These stage readings will be performed with a live audience.
The three stage readings for this year’s festival are The Password by Karin Diann Williams, Even Flowers Bloom in Hell, Sometimes by Franky D. Gonzalez and Miriam’s Song by Robert Paul Moreira.

SYNOPSIS: MIRIAM’S SONG follows three Cuban American siblings in their tragic attempts to find harmony in the throes of broken promises, addictions, the death of their patriarch and false ambitions. Told from the perspective of Raquel Vargas, a former singer returning home to her father and brothers in Los Angeles after a 10-year absence, the play follows Raquel on her quest through the biblical, the magical and even the musical, as she endeavors to compose a new song alongside those she loves the most; a song that will finally lead them well beyond the dissonance that continues to tear them
apart.

SYNOPSIS: Amidst the unforgiving confines of a federal prison, several inmates navigate decades of systemic oppression, shattered family bonds and fleeting hope, finding redemption, connection and the enduring resilience of the human spirit in the bleakest of place over a period of 25 years.

The Password

SYNOPSIS: “Divorced and bankrupt, Marcus is at the end of his rope – and he’s forgotten the password to his backup plan: a 10-year-old Bitcoin wallet. So, he turns to the women in his life – his mother, his daughter, former business partner and various exes. Will reopening old wounds spark his memory? Or will it trigger a conspiracy to steal his fortune?”
The staged readings are scheduled to run at the STC Cooper Center for Performing Arts – Black Box on June 27 & 28, 2025 as a part of the South Texas New Play Festival.
