McAllen, TX (September 16, 2013) – South Texas College (STC) is pleased to announce continued community support of their Valley Scholars Program having most recently received an Executive Sponsorship from Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) for their 8th Annual “A Night with the Stars” fundraiser.  This important event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 10, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Corinthian Banquet & Special Event Center located in Mission, TX.

The Valley Scholars Program was established in 1997 to recognize and promote academic excellence by providing financial assistance, academic support services, mentoring, and leadership development. The Program provides a foundation that empowers students to excel in their academic achievements and to become leaders that will make significant contributions to their communities.

“It is through higher education that we ensure the future of the community – education inspires people to become our leaders, our professionals and our innovators for the future, said DHR Chief Marketing Officer Shea Joyner Prevost. “So whenever we can give our support to such a cause as the Valley Scholars Program Scholarships, we are truly honored.”

The Valley Scholars Program recruits STC students who graduated within the top 10% of their high school class and offers support services in scholarships, advisement, registration, and participation in the STC Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society.

“The Valley Scholars Program and South Texas College would like to thank Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance for their generous donation of an Executive Sponsorship,” said STC Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Anahid Petrosian. “We are honored to call them supporters and value their strong commitment to education.  Their gift ensures that the Valley Scholars Program will continue to provide students with financial assistance, leadership development, and the opportunity to achieve their goals of academic excellence.”

Since the Valley Scholars Program’s inception, more than 630 participants matriculated to either STC’s own bachelor programs or transferred to other four-year colleges and universities. Net proceeds from “A Night with the Stars” will benefit STC’s Valley Scholars Program Scholarships. For more information call 956.872.1952 or visit nightwithstars.southtexascollege.edu.
