Pharr, TX  The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley will hold its first evening ‘Meals under Moonlight’ Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) of the year on Wednesday, March 17, 2020 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm, or until capacity is reached, at the Food Bank RGV. This nighttime distribution will enable the Food Bank RGV to distribute food to clients normally unable to attend during the regular DTEP hours, due to work or school schedules.

This distribution is made possible through the generous support of the Schuster and Moore Families, who both have a rich and longstanding history of community engagement and providing support to Food Bank RGV events.

The ‘Meals Under Moonlight’ DTEP will follow the Food Bank RGV’s mobile drive-thru model with little or no contact. Staff and volunteers will assist with the distribution of food. Produce and shelf-stable bags of food will be placed into the vehicle trunks of attendees. Up to 700 families will be served through this on-site evening distribution, taking place at the Food Bank RGV located at 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr, TX

The Food Bank RGV has revised its distribution schedule, in an effort to reach even more clients and better serve the entire community. The first Wednesday of the month is dedicated to serving senior citizens ages 60 and older from 7am to 10 am, or until capacity is reached.  The second and fourth Wednesdays of the month will continue to serve the general public from 7am to 10am, or until capacity is reached. The ‘Meals under Moonlight’ distribution will take place every third Wednesday of the month from 5pm to 8pm, to serve working families and individual clients unable to attend during the regular general public distribution schedule. When the ‘Meals under Moonlight’ distribution takes place on the third Wednesday of the month, there will not be a morning distribution.

For all distributions taking place at the Food Bank RGV, or at mobile pop-ups across the RGV;  there will be a limit of 2 families (2 people) per car to receive assistance. ID and proof of address are required. All vehicle occupants must wear face coverings and car trunks must be completely empty. Distributions will be first come, first served and while supplies last.
