Melden & Hunt, Inc. is very proud to announce that the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) honored Mr. Roberto N. Tamez, RPLS as the (TSPS) Young Surveyor of the Year for 2013.

Tamez began his career at Melden & Hunt, Inc. in 1998 as an intern attending the University of Texas at Austin. In 2003, Tamez graduated from the University with a B.A. in Geography. Then in 2006, he was hired fulltime by Melden & Hunt, Inc. to manage and oversee the operations of the survey department.

As a driven young man, Tamez took it upon himself to continue fulfilling his thirst for education, and in 2012, he acquired a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Pan American. Later that year, Tamez was afforded the opportunity to become an owner of Melden & Hunt, Inc., a well-respected firm with 67 years of engineering and land surveying history.

To continue on his success, Tamez was recognized by TSPS as the 2012 Chapter President of the Year representing the Rio Grande Valley Chapter 19.  His passion for land surveying is clearly visible and is demonstrated in his work and representation of the land surveying profession. He continues to be involved in talking with students from the elementary level to the college level about surveying and the opportunities it could present as a career. He is also an advocate for educating the public about the land surveying profession to raise awareness of a proper land survey and what is involved in producing the final product.

Tamez currently serves on the Texas Board of Professional Land Survey QAQC Committee and is the current TSPS Standards committee chair. As Vice-President he looks forward to many new opportunities and ventures in land surveying as the Rio Grande Valley continues to grow. TBB
