EDINBURG, Texas– Yesterday, Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents seized over 800 pounds of marijuana in four separate events.
On Wednesday evening, RGV Border Patrol agents working near Brownsville, Texas, observed multiple subjects near the Rio Grande with bundles of narcotics. Agents, along with a K-9, discovered three abandoned bundles that were determined to be marijuana. As the agents searched for bundles they also encountered two illegal aliens in the nearby brush. The total weight of the marijuana was 142 pounds, valued at $114K.
Thursday morning, RGV Border Patrol agents, in collaboration with Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers (TX DPS) seized almost 350 pounds of marijuana, valued at over $278K. The narcotic smugglers were observed loading the marijuana into a vehicle near the Rio Grande in Rio Grande City, Texas. The driver led authorities on a short pursuit that ended near the Rio Grande. Responding agents observed the driver fleeing into Mexico after abandoning the vehicle and narcotics. A search for additional suspects yielded negative results.
Last night, Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents working near La Grulla, Texas, discovered four abandoned bundles of marijuana after following shoeprints that originated near the Rio Grande. The total weight of the marijuana was approximately 180 pounds, valued at over $145K.
Around the same time, RGV Border Patrol agents working west of Rio Grande City, Texas, observed multiple subjects near the Rio Grande with bundles of narcotics. When the agents confronted the drug smugglers, they dropped their contraband and swiftly absconded back into Mexico. Agents discovered four abandoned bundles that were determined to be marijuana. The weight of the marijuana was approximately 140 pounds, valued at over $111K.
