SAN JUAN – Dozens of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD juniors and seniors have been sharpening their college readiness testing skills in preparation for the upcoming ACT exam happening Oct. 27 thanks to a free ACT Attack Prep Course offered at PSJA Early College High School by Hidalgo County Commissioner Eddie Cantu.

The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. Aware of the importance a few points can make for high school students on admissions and scholarship opportunities, the ACT Attack Prep Course has been offered every Saturday starting Sept. 22 to students in the Rio Grande Valley.

“These workshops are teaching students a variety of important skills including how to manage their time on the test and how to study,” said Thania Chapa one of the four ACT Attack Princeton Review trained instructors leading the course. “Our goal is to help our students improve their test scores and boost their confidence when they take the exam.”

Despite sacrificing his weekends, PSJA Early College High School Senior Joel Casas shared that he is already seeing benefits from attending the ACT Attack Prep Course.

“This course has helped sharpen my grammar and math skills. I feel that my math skills have already improved significantly since I started attending,” said Casas who plans to graduate with an Associate Degree in Biology from South Texas College before earning his high school diploma in May 2019. “My ultimate goal is to bring up my ACT score by a few points.”

Currently, over 60 students have been attending the weekend courses in preparation for the ACT exam taking place Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018. With just one Saturday workshop left on Oct. 20 before the exam, students interested are encouraged to apply to attend. For more information, they can visit https://www.actattack.org/
