(McAllen, TX)  As the City of McAllen continues to put the finishing touches on its plans for one of the most festive 4th of July celebrations in the Rio Grande Valley, City leaders are pleased to announce that Texas State Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-20, will serve as this year’s Parade Grand Marshal.

“It is such an honor to have our long serving senator, who has served not only McAllen, but also, the entire Rio Grande Valley so well and who is the epitome of a dedicated public servant, as the grand marshal for our city’s 4th of July Parade,” said City of McAllen Mayor Jim Darling.  “I am honored to call him my colleague, my fellow veteran, my friend and most especially, my Senator, a true advocate for hard-working families in McAllen and our region.”

“I am both honored and grateful to be selected as this year’s Parade Grand Marshall for the City of McAllen’s 4thof July Parade,” said Sen. Hinojosa. “McAllen is a special place not only because I live here, but also because so much of the area’s growth and success is due to the hard-working citizens of this community. I appreciate the opportunity to share our country’s Independence Day, a day that unites us all across our country to celebrate our freedom and liberties, with our families and friends in McAllen.”

The City of McAllen 4th of July Parade will take place on Tuesday, July 4, starting at 9 AM, where it will travel from Houston Avenue to Cedar Street north from City Hall along Main Street to Archer Park. This festive parade showcases floats made by members of the community and local marching bands.

The Parade is only one of many events and activities hosted by the City of McAllen to celebrate the 4th of July, which will culminate in a sizzling, patriotic musical fireworks show, unlike any other in the Rio Grande Valley.
