McALLEN, Texas — Two McAllen residents are facing multiple misdemeanor charges after a July 4th medical emergency involving an unresponsive minor led police to discover adults had allegedly provided alcohol at a local gathering.
On July 4, 2026, at approximately 10:00 PM, McAllen Emergency Communications received an urgent call for medical assistance regarding a 15-year-old female who was vomiting and losing consciousness after consuming alcohol. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) requested immediate police assistance at the 4100 block of Colbath Avenue, noting that the juvenile was breathing but unresponsive. Minutes later, the reporting party advised dispatchers that the victim was no longer able to breathe.
Upon arrival, McAllen Police Officers observed the minor female shifting in and out of consciousness. The subsequent investigation revealed that two minors under the age of 21 were granted unrestricted access to alcoholic beverages stored in a room at the event, consuming alcohol directly from the bottles.
The severe level of intoxication resulted in one minor being rushed to a local hospital via EMS for emergency medical treatment. The second minor was issued a citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and safely released to a responsible party.
Officers successfully traced the source of the alcohol to Jeanett Garza, 43, and Jose Garza, 44, both of McAllen. Investigators determined the pair purchased the alcoholic beverages and stored them inside the room where the juveniles were gathered. Both individuals were arrested on July 4 and arraigned the following day.
