On Monday, June 14, 2021, at 4:30 p.m., during an extraordinary McAllen City Commission Meeting, two special events took place: the canvassing of votes, the result of the recent municipal elections and immediately after the swearing-in of the winning candidates.

Javier Villalobos was sworn in as McAllen Mayor by the Honorable Ricardo Hinojosa, U.S. District Court Judge, Southern District of Texas.

Tony Aguirre was sworn in as McAllen City Commissioner by the Honorable Judge Israel Ramon Jr. from the 430th District Ct.

Commissioner J.J. Zamora retained his positions and sworn by the Honorable Rose Guerra Reyna from the 206th District Court Judge, Hidalgo County.

Commissioner Omar Quintanilla also retained his seat and was sworn in by the Honorable Nereida Lopez Singleterry Master Court #1 Judge, Hidalgo County.

Pepe Cabeza de Vaca is another new Commissioner for McAllen. He was sworn in by the Honorable Jim Darling Mayor, City of McAllen.

With the votes officially canvassed from 2021 general and special runoff municipal election, it is time to welcome new and returning elected officials to the McAllen City Commission.
