McAllen, Texas – This month, IBC Bank awarded $153,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors across Texas and Oklahoma in honor of Antonio R. Sanchez, Sr., founder of IBC Bank. Born into a humble family, Sanchez was a strong supporter of making higher education available to students interested in bettering their lives.

IBC Bank-McAllen was proud to award $24,000 in scholarships to deserving students from 24 area high schools. The need-based scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to IBC’s “Do More” philosophy.

“The annual presentation of the A.R. Sanchez scholarships is an event I always look forward to,” said IBC Bank-McAllen President and CEO Adrian Villarreal. “Our team does so much for the community year-round, but knowing that we’re helping these students get one step closer to college is one of the most rewarding feelings.”

IBC Bank began the A.R. Sanchez, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Program more than two decades ago. Since then over $2 million in scholarships have been awarded to students across South Texas and Oklahoma.

“The recipients of our A.R. Sanchez, Sr. Memorial scholarships are chosen for their dedication to volunteerism and community service,” explains IBC Bank Chairman & CEO Dennis E. Nixon. “These civic-minded young people represent our future, and IBC Bank is honored to play a part in alleviating some of their financial burden in their pursuit of higher education.”
