Weslaco, Texas – The City of Weslaco and the Economic Development Corporation announce the start of construction at 1004 Fairfield Blvd., for the future site of the Hampton Inn’s newest location in the Rio Grande Valley.

Franchise owners of the new Hampton Inn say that Weslaco’s centralized location in the region, its stable economy, and strategic growth, were determining factors to their decision to come to Weslaco.

“I’ve been studying Weslaco over the last 5 years,” says Birju Patel, franchise owner. “The sales taxes are consistently higher from year to year, commercial and residential building permits are steadily on the rise and entertainment options, particularly around our new site, are perfect for travelers staying with us.”

The proposed site is within walking distance to a variety of shopping and dining options, with immediate access to Interstate 2/Hwy 83 and will be considered one of Weslaco’s premier hotels. The hotel will accommodate 84 rooms to include executive suites, reception and conference rooms and a fully equipped fitness center.

The Hampton Inn brand is considered to be among the top limited service hotels in the upper midscale lodging industry. Since 2009, Patel and company, BH Hospitality Management LLC have owned several other Hampton Inns throughout Texas. Other successful Hampton Inn Hotels in the Valley include Pharr, McAllen, Mission, and Harlingen.

Patel says his experience in working with the City of Weslaco and the EDC has been seamless. “I am encouraged by the progressive-minded leadership in Weslaco,” says Patel, “They have a well-rounded sense for business and that excites me about partnering with that level of professionalism.”

“We should always want our visitors to Weslaco feel at home with first-class accommodations,” says Marty Masso, EDC Board Member and Weslaco business owner. “The Hampton Inn will fit right in.”

Construction is underway and estimated completion and opening date is September 2019. The hotel chain will create between 10 to 15 full-time jobs in Weslaco and owners say they hope to give back to the city by sponsoring and supporting local schools, churches & charities.
