Edinburg, Texas – District clerk staff presented a check today to the Valley AIDS Council of the Rio Grande Valley (VAC) in the amount of $2,500 as a part of their Blues for Bucks Workplace Fundraising Campaign. The staff-driven effort allows employees to wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for a $5 donation. The funds are collected for a six-month period then presented to a nonprofit organization that is randomly selected from a pool of nonprofit entities submitted by office employees.

“The Valley AIDS Council has long been the leading medical organization providing HIV prevention and education in the South Texas border region. Our community is blessed to have them as a supportive medical resource and we are honored to be able to contribute to their efforts in a small way,” said Hinojosa.

VAC is the primary provider of HIV prevention, education and testing services and the only Ryan White-funded agency providing medical care and supportive services for people living with HIV in the 3-county area that stretches from the lower Rio Grande Valley on the US/Mexico border. With facilities in McAllen, Harlingen, and Brownsville, the VAC works tirelessly to provide and expand services while providing comprehensive HIV/AIDS medical care, medical training, research, social services, education, prevention and continued outreach in our community.

“We cannot thank the district clerk staff enough as these funds will allow young men and women to access HIV/STI testing and help them stay healthy,” said Wally Cantu, CEO, Valley AIDS Council.
