EDINBURG, Texas – The Edinburg Police Department has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into a hit-and-run incident involving cyclist Eric Lee Flores, which occurred on March 20, 2026, in the 700 block of East Chapin Road.

Investigators have confirmed that Flores passed away on Sunday, April 12. As a result of this development, the charges against the suspect have been upgraded.

Alfredo Yanez, 71, was initially arrested and charged with Collision Involving Personal Injury or Death, a third-degree felony. He was arraigned again on Tuesday, April 14.

The charge was upgraded to Collision Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death, a second-degree felony, and an additional charge of Manslaughter, also a second-degree felony, was filed. Bond was set at $400,000.
