EDINBURG, TX – Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Border Patrol agents interdict over $545K worth of narcotics.
The McAllen Border Patrol Station riverine unit was working near Mission, Texas, when they observed a raft carrying approximately ten subjects in the middle of the Rio Grande. As then agents approached the raft, the subjects jumped into the river and absconded into Mexico. Inside the raft were two backpacks containing a total of seven compact bundles of crystal methamphetamine. The methamphetamine weighed approximately 19 pounds with an estimated street value of over $375K.
Hours later, Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station agents working in La Casita, Texas, observed several subjects loading bundles into a midsize sedan. The driver abandoned the vehicle near a residence where agents discovered two bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighed more than 115lbs with an estimated street value of over $92K.
A Honda Fit arrived at the Javier Vega Jr. Border Patrol Checkpoint in Sarita, Texas, for inspection. The vehicle was referred to the secondary inspection area following a canine alert. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 1 gram of cocaine, more than 500 LSD tablets, and nearly 1,300 Xanax tablets. The two occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest and escorted inside the checkpoint for processing. The case and narcotics were turned over to the Kenedy County Sheriff’s Office.
Additionally, over $78K worth of methamphetamine was seized at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint.
