WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced the availability of $1 billion to upgrade American infrastructure. The federal funding comes as part of the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Discretionary Grants program.

Projects evaluated for BUILD will be based on criteria that include safety, economic competitiveness, quality of life, environmental sustainability, state of good repair, innovation, and partnership.

“Infrastructure investment should also include room for technological innovation that will modernize our roads and bridges, increase efficiency, and lower our carbon footprint,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “My office is ready to assist all who wish to apply for this funding.”

For this round of BUILD Transportation grants, the maximum grant award is $25 million, and no more than $100 million can be awarded to a single State.

To better address the needs of rural America, 50% of BUILD Transportation grant funding will go to projects located in rural areas that deliver positive benefits for these areas.

To provide technical assistance to prospective applicants, DOT is hosting a series of webinars during the FY 2020 BUILD grant application process. A webinar on how to compete for BUILD Transportation Grants for all applicants will be held on February 25, 2020.

Further details will be made available at https://www.transportation.gov/BUILDgrants. The deadline to submit an application is May 18, 2020. For more information, please visit https://www.transportation.gov/BUILDgrants.
