BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The City of Brownsville Communications and Marketing Department & Brownsville TV have received national recognition from the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC) with a 2026 Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Award. The award, in the news video category, is for the production of its Brownsville TV Newscast.
The NAGC recognized the Brownsville TV Newscast as a professionally produced municipal news program designed to keep residents informed about city services, public safety, quality-of-life initiatives, and community events. Through straightforward storytelling, compelling visuals, and interviews, the newscast provides timely, transparent, and accessible information that strengthens public trust and engagement while serving as a reliable local information source for the Brownsville community.
“On behalf of the City of Brownsville, I want to congratulate Manny Chacon and the City’s Communications and Marketing Department and Brownsville TV for earning this national recognition,” said Interim City Manager Alan Guard, ICMA-CM, CGFO. “Our Communications Department plays an integral role in promoting transparency throughout the City by informing and educating the public, while also offering valuable resources for residents to learn more about Brownsville’s growing community, industries, opportunities, and services. This award reflects the professionalism, creativity, and commitment of a team dedicated to keeping our community connected.”
The Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards program recognizes superior government communication products and the professionals who produce them. Held annually, the national awards program honors excellence in communications, marketing, television, social media, and other public information efforts.

The National Association of Government Communicators presented 102 Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards across 31 categories, during a ceremony held in Greater Palm Springs, California.
NAGC is a nonprofit professional association dedicated to advancing the practice of government communications. Established in 1976, NAGC provides government communicators at all levels, federal, state, county, local, military, and tribal, with the resources, tools, and networks they need to excel in their careers.
The City of Brownsville will recognize the Communications and Marketing Department and Brownsville TV for this national achievement at the regularly scheduled City Commission meeting on June 16, 2026, at 5:00PM, at City Hall.
