February 2020 – The Boys and Girls Club of Pharr’s Youth & Family Support Services Program held a community resource fair at each club location throughout the last month. Main Unit in central Pharr, South Pharr Unit in Las Milpas, and San Juan Unit had a collective 200 in attendance for this new year, new start event. Each fair included over 30 varied partners from the community distributing essential and helpful information to aid recipients in achieving their new year goals.

Nancy Martinez, Boys and Girls Club of Pharr Social Worker, put this movement together as a way to go beyond the new year resolution norm.

“The New Year typically brings health related resolutions but we wanted to take it further and include resources that can improve one’s quality of life on varied levels. Through our community partners, we were able to provide information on many topics all in one space. Whether it be going to school, entering the workforce, buying a home, improving health, and so much more, the goal was to connect parents to the corresponding resources. We are looking forward to providing similar events in the near future that will positively impact the community around us.”

Attendees raved at the success of the events stating that the resources inspired them to go after new goals this 2020. One parent at the South Pharr Unit was moved to potentially begin a wellness workshop for her community.

Boys & Girls Club of Pharr would like to thank all our community partners for their generosity and participation including Texas Workforce, Affordable Homes of South Texas, U.S. 2020 Census, Crunch Fitness, PSJA ISD, Hidalgo County Precinct 2, Behavioral Health Solutions, UCAS, Idea Public Schools, and Nuestra Clinica.

Boys & Girls Club of Pharr continues to serve youth & teens through its safe, positive, and educational Afterschool Program, Monday – Friday, 3p.m. – 8p.m. The organization has three traditional sites: Main Unit in central Pharr, South Pharr Unit, and San Juan Unit.
