AUSTIN, Texas — Texas and Nuevo León officials and business leaders are moving to strengthen long-term economic cooperation following two days of meetings in Austin focused on investment, innovation, workforce development and strategic planning.
On Aug. 27-28, the Texas Office in Mexico organized a visit to Austin for a delegation from Consejo Nuevo León para la Planeación Estratégica, an autonomous constitutional organization that sets strategic guidelines for Nuevo León’s development in coordination with the state government.
The delegation was led by Consejo Nuevo León President Andrés Garza Herrera and included Fernando Mendizabal, José L. Quiroga, Ana Fernanda Hierro, Valeria Moy Campos, Jesús Ignacio Navarro, Roberto Olvera, Eugenio José Reyes Guzmán, Sandra Martinez, Gabriel Chapa and Carla Amaya.
Representatives of the Nuevo León government included Gov. Samuel García, Betsabé “Betsy” Rocha, Mariana Rodríguez and Emmanuel Loo.
The Texas Economic Development team, led by Executive Director Adriana Cruz, received the delegation, along with Shirley Agudelo Temple, James S. Taylor, David Zapata, Eddie Margain W, and Zaira Saenz.
During the visit, the delegation met with Opportunity Austin, The University of Texas at Austin, Silicon Labs, the Texas Business Leadership Council, and the Texas Workforce Commission. Discussions focused on economic development, innovation, investment attraction, workforce development, and opportunities for greater cooperation between Texas and Nuevo León.
The meetings also gave officials and leaders from both states an opportunity to examine approaches that could strengthen their economic relationship and encourage the exchange of knowledge and successful development practices.
As a result of the visit, Consejo Nuevo León and the Texas Office in Mexico agreed to move forward with creating a strategic working group to strengthen their long-term institutional relationship.
The working group will focus on exchanging best practices, facilitating knowledge transfer, and identifying areas where Texas and Nuevo León can cooperate on economic development strategies.
One of its first tasks will be to analyze the Bigger, Better Texas Plan. The initiative will provide a basis for exchanging experiences and examining economic development practices relevant to both states.
The agreement builds on the close economic relationship between Texas and Nuevo León and establishes a framework for continued communication between government, economic development, business, and institutional leaders.
The Austin meetings reinforced both states’ efforts to pursue a regional agenda aimed at strengthening competitiveness, economic integration, and long-term prosperity.
