Angel Lopez Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s soccer team learned on Friday that senior midfielder Angel Lopez has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team.

Lopez is one of five student-athletes in the Western Athletic Conference to earn the honor as he represented the District 7 Team.

Lopez has been named to the Fall and Spring Honor Roll and earned Academic All-WAC honors in each of his first three seasons. This season, Lopez is third on the team in points (12), goals (3), and leads the team with six assists. His six assists rank third-most in the WAC this season.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. In addition, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed.

Honorees selected First-Team Academic All-District will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced on December 5.
