Texas Border Business –

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the first e-newsletter from the UT-Pan American Advancement Division. For those who aren’t familiar with “Advancement”, our division is responsible for fundraising, marketing, public relations/public affairs and alumni relations.

We play an integral part in the success of our university and that success is dependent upon your assistance. We’ve all heard the sayings “no man is an island” and “it takes a village” and those sayings could not apply more than to our students.

We have tremendously talented students, but it is too often the case that they lack financial and emotional support to make their dreams come true.

That’s why we are so grateful to our many donors who generously give to UTPA and the UTPA Foundation. It is through your contributions that our students receive scholarships that help them afford tuition, books and rent, allow them to experience travel abroad and for some students, even afford a meal.

This is an exciting time at UTPA. Our student enrollment has, for the first time, exceeded 20,000! We are busy working on the consolidation of UTPA and UT Brownsville into one regional university that will also bring a medical school to the Rio Grande Valley.

Last week in Washington, D.C., Excelencia in Education presented an award to our Cooperative Doctoral Program in Pharmacy. Our program was selected among hundreds as the example of excellence at the graduate level.

This award came upon the heels of UTPA winning the “College of the Year” award from the National Hispanic Institute. And this week, we host thousands of students, educators, corporate representatives and community members on our campus as part of HESTEC – Hispanic Engineering Science and Technology week.

We hope you will join us Saturday, October 12th on our campus for community day so you can personally experience the excitement surrounding our university.

While the news is inspiring, the need is still great, but we know that together, we will continue to advance.

We invite you to join us in making that difference in the lives of our students by making a gift today. It’s as simple as clicking on this link, or calling us at 956-665-5301. Or visit our website to learn about the many ways to make a gift.

Yours in Service,

Veronica Gonzales
