McALLEN, Texas — Strengthening partnerships across Rio South Texas and northern Tamaulipas is essential to expanding manufacturing investment and workforce opportunities, COSTEP, the Council for South Texas Economic Progress Chief Executive Officer Adam Gonzalez said during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Clúster Eléctrico-Electrónico de Tamaulipas.
Speaking at the International Museum of Art & Science, Gonzalez said the agreement represents a commitment to collaboration among manufacturers, educational institutions, economic development organizations and communities on both sides of the border.
“This MOU is much more than the signing of a piece of paper,” Gonzalez said. “It represents a meaningful commitment to collaboration—not only with the Electronics Cluster of Tamaulipas, but with all of northern Tamaulipas, the interior of Mexico, and partners around the world.”
Gonzalez said the partnership is intended to connect stakeholders throughout the region and support continued industrial growth by strengthening the area’s manufacturing ecosystem.
He also described Rio South Texas and northern Tamaulipas as a region united by shared industries, commerce and families.
“The Rio Grande River, the Río Bravo, is not a separator, but it actually unites Rio South Texas and northern Tamaulipas,” Gonzalez said. “I think together we can continue building the border of the future.”
Sergio Arturo Treviño Ayala, president of the Clúster Eléctrico-Electrónico de Tamaulipas, said the organizations share the same vision for regional development.
“It’s easy to get to this agreement because we are looking at the region, not only looking for one side or one company,” Treviño said. “It’s for the region, the people, the teams, the families and how to grow this area.”
The memorandum of understanding establishes a framework for continued cooperation between COSTEP and the Clúster Eléctrico-Electrónico de Tamaulipas to support manufacturing, workforce development and cross-border economic collaboration.
