BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart President and CEO John Furner and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey pointed to value, faster delivery and digital growth as key factors behind the retailer’s second-quarter performance in a video Furner posted on his personal LinkedIn account following the release of Walmart’s Q2 FY27 financial results.
In the video, Furner and Rainey thanked Walmart associates and discussed what stood out to them during the quarter, including more than 11,000 Rollbacks in the United States, growing demand for faster delivery, and the increasing role of stores and clubs in supporting eCommerce fulfillment.
“For the second quarter, we just released results, and it was a really good quarter for Walmart,” Furner said.
Furner said value was among the quarter’s strongest elements, pointing to the company’s expanding use of Rollbacks, Walmart’s temporary price reductions.
“We had over 11,000 Rollbacks in the quarter,” Furner said, compared with just over 7,000 during the previous quarter. “The focus on value is extraordinary, and I’m really proud of it.”
Convenience was another priority. Furner said Walmart continues to give customers more ways to shop while speeding up delivery.
Whether customers shop inside a store, use curbside pickup, have purchases delivered to their homes, or choose faster delivery, Furner said the company is executing well across those options.
The strategy also demonstrates how Walmart’s extensive physical network is increasingly supporting its digital operations. Stores and clubs are not only places where customers shop in person; they also play a growing role in fulfilling online purchases and providing last-mile delivery.
Rainey said that the connection between physical locations and eCommerce was one of the developments that stood out to him.
“What stands out to me is the way that our clubs and stores are helping with eCommerce,” Rainey said.
He said 37% of store-fulfilled orders were Express orders, reflecting demand for faster service.
Rainey also said Walmart’s growing digital operations can support higher-margin businesses, including advertising and membership.
“The more digital we become, it actually helps us with some of these higher-margin businesses like advertising and like membership,” Rainey said.
Furner also pointed to Walmart’s ability to develop successful ideas and expand them across its international operations. After visiting several countries this year, he said he had seen how concepts developed within the company can be brought to life and then scaled globally.
“It’s really exciting to see when we build something, we have an idea, we bring it to life and then scale it globally,” Furner said.
He thanked Walmart associates for embracing new ideas and helping execute the company’s strategy.
“Thank you for being open to the new ideas,” Furner said.
The executives closed their discussion by looking ahead to the rest of the year, with Rainey saying he was excited about what Walmart’s team could accomplish in the second half.
