RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Thursday that 58 student-athletes at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley competing in either the spring sports of baseball and men’s and women’s golf, tennis and outdoor track & field, or in any sports as freshmen or transfers, have earned 62 Academic All-WAC honors.

Thirty-one UTRGV student-athletes earned Spring Academic All-WAC honors while an additional 25 student-athletes earned 31 Freshmen and Transfers Academic All-WAC awards.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year at the institution, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and in most years, have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, or 20 percent for pitchers.

A total of 651 student-athletes competing in the aforementioned sports, as well as softball, were named to the list. Additionally, 321 freshman and transfers earned the honor for a total of 972 student-athletes.

During the 2019-20 academic year, a total of 1,614 student-athletes Academic All-WAC honors were doled out, including 106 honors for 93 UTRGV student-athletes.
