BROWNSVILLE, TX – SteelCoast, one of the largest and most technologically advanced reclamation, remediation and recycling firms in North America, located at the Port of Brownsville, Cameron County, has entered into a performance agreement with the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC) and will create at least 90 new jobs within one year, for a total of 300 jobs, and provide over $2 Million in capital investment. SteelCoast will expand its operations by purchasing additional equipment which will increase the capability of their operations, as they recycle large, decommissioned navy vessels. It will also allow them to better maximize their entire yard,” Helen Ramirez, CEO/ Executive Director of GBIC, announced recently.

“As we took on the pandemic in 2020, we recognized the value in our partnership with first, our employees and then, with our suppliers & community partners. Our synergy with GBIC has been exceptionally effective because we share the same vision of success for Brownsville and the citizens that make it all work.  The award of this jobs creation grant is yet another way GBIC is finding ways to help its industry partners and community succeed,” said Alberto Garcia, Chief Financial Officer with SteelCoast. “Thank you, Helen Ramirez, Ramiro Aleman, Karla De La Riva, the rest of the GBIC staff and its Board Members for such great collaboration and foresight,” said Garcia.

“We are happy to assist major employers in the Greater Brownsville area,” said John Cowen, Jr., Chairman of the GBIC Board of Directors. “This project will assist SteelCoast with providing employment for a total of 300 employees within the next year, with the majority of the new hires being Brownsville residents, as well as, on-the-job training, which will upskill our Brownsville workforce.”
