Washington, D.C. — Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement on today’s Supreme Court hearing on the constitutionality of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“This Supreme Court decision will have life-changing consequences for thousands of immigrants, their families, and communities in South Texas. The 12,800 DACA recipients in my district are comprised of students, teachers, first responders, and business owners who make our country stronger and contribute to our local communities every day.”

“We must keep our promise to DACA recipients by giving them permanent protections from deportation. That is why I co-sponsored and helped pass H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, which provides DACA recipients the opportunity to apply for permanent legal status and eventually become eligible for U.S. citizenship. As the Supreme Court listens to oral arguments and eventually makes its final decision on the DACA program, I will continue to stand with the thousands of immigrant recipients who have made South Texas and this nation their home.”
