Pharr, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD’s Fine Arts Director Jon Taylor was recently inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Band Directors Hall of Fame due to his long-standing dedication to improving the lives of students through the appreciation of music.

The Rio Grande Valley Band Directors Hall of Fame exists to recognize and honor band directors in the Rio Grande Valley who have demonstrated the highest level of dedication to the art of music education.

As a longtime PSJA ISD educator for more than 38 years, Taylor’s accomplishments include having the PSJA High School and PSJA North High School Bands earn high distinctions in UIL and the TMEA competition. His bands produced numerous Sweepstakes Trophies, All-State Band members, and UIL Outstanding Performers.

In 2010, PSJA ISD Superintendent Dr. Daniel King offered Jon Taylor the opportunity to become the first PSJA ISD Director of Fine Arts overseeing art, dance, music, and theatre programs throughout the district. During Taylor’s tenure, PSJA ISD Fine Arts Programs have significantly grown in quantity and quality, often earning state and national recognition.

His record of service includes serving as the TMEA Region XV Band Vice-Chair, Region Vice-President, Region President, State Board Member, All-State Concert Band Organizer and All-State Symphonic Band Organizer. His UIL roles include Music Advisor Committee Member and Region XV Assistant Executive Secretary. He currently serves as a Rio Grande Valley Band Directors Hall of Fame Committee Member and Pharr Community Theatre Board Member.

In addition to being inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Band Directors Hall of Fame, his achievements have been recognized with his induction into the international bandmasters’ fraternity Phi Beta Mu.

“I am very honored to be inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Band Directors Hall of Fame,” said Taylor. “It is especially satisfying to me to follow my mentor PSJA High School Bear Band Director Pete Cisneros into this esteemed organization. This recognition would not have been possible without the efforts of many PSJA students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.” Congratulations!
