PHARR, Texas – Carolina De Anda Treviño of Carmen Anaya Elementary in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo USD (PSJA ISD) has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 James F. Veninga Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award presented by Humanities Texas.

The prestigious statewide recognition is awarded annually to one exemplary humanities teacher in Texas for elementary, middle, or high schools and honors educators who demonstrate excellence, innovation, and a deep commitment to humanities instruction.

The award commemorates the legacy of James F. Veninga, former executive director emeritus of Humanities Texas, whose contributions helped advance humanities education throughout Texas and the nation.

As part of the recognition, De Anda Treviño will receive a $5,000 award, while Carmen Anaya Elementary will receive an additional $1,000 to support humanities instructional materials and programs.

De Anda Treviño continues to earn recognition at the state level for her outstanding work in education. Earlier this year, she was named the 2026 H-E-B Excellence in Education Elementary Rising Star winner and was also recognized as the 2025 Texas Association for Bilingual Education Elementary Bilingual Teacher of the Year.

“Ms. De Anda Treviño exemplifies the passion, creativity, and dedication that define our educators at PSJA ISD,” said PSJA Superintendent Alejandro Elias. “Her ability to inspire students through meaningful and engaging learning experiences continues to make a lasting impact in the classroom and beyond.”

De Anda Treviño’s recognition highlights PSJA ISD’s commitment to academic excellence and innovative instruction that empowers students to think critically, communicate effectively, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

The honor also reflects the district’s continued focus on supporting educators who create transformative learning opportunities and help prepare students for success in college, career, and life.

A formal award presentation is expected to take place during the 2026-2027 school year.
