SAN JUAN – As a way to wrap up National School Breakfast Week, the PSJA Child Nutrition Department stopped by Drs. Reed & Mock Elementary on Friday, March 6 to highlight a PSJA North Early College High School student who won the 2019 Texas Department of Agriculture’s You Art What You Eat art contest.

Through Texas Department of Agriculture’s You Art What You Eat statewide student art contest, students are encouraged to illustrate healthy school meals with the provided theme. This year’s theme is Blast off With a Healthy School Lunch/Breakfast. The winning entries for the contest inspire designs for cafeteria posters, social media ads, flyers, and other resources that schools across Texas use for celebrating National School Lunch Week and School Breakfast Week.

During Friday’s National School Breakfast Week event, students will get to eat a special parfait made by the Child Nutrition Department, who utilized locally sourced products. After their breakfast, students will hear from PSJA North Senior Alan Hernandez, who was the 2019 1st place winner of the contest last year. The elementary students will then share their artwork with the senior and ask for his advice.
