Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is not known for his support of President Trump. Yet on the momentous occasion of President Trump opening the embassy in Jerusalem, Israel, the top Democrat broke ranks to give the president credit for his achievement.

“In a long overdue move, we have moved our embassy to Jerusalem,” Schumer said in a statement. Not missing an opportunity to claim credit, the Minority Leader also said “Every nation should have the right to choose its capital. I sponsored legislation to do this two decades ago, and I applaud President Trump for doing it.”

The momentous event merited a rare display of bipartisanship in Washington, which has been divided on foreign and domestic policy. Sen. Schumer was one of the few Democrats opposed to the Iran Nuclear Deal, but struck out at the president’s decision last week to withdraw from the Obama era arrangement. Schumer’s desire to support on this occasion shows a clear victory for the President Trump, so much so that the shrewd Democratic leader wants to bask in its glory.
