Brownsville, Texas – Today I proudly filed my candidacy with the Texas Democratic Party stepping up as the next generation of leadership to represent South Texas families in State Senate District 27.

My thoughts immediately went to my grandfather, Joe LaMantia, Jr., or Papa to us, who first came to the Valley with less than a high school education. He started in farming, produce, and then added some cattle. Today, I’m part of the next generation of leadership in the family business that carries on his legacy and supports over 1200 jobs across Texas and beyond.

I believe all South Texas families deserve that opportunity to build their future, but that requires a new generation of leadership more focused on getting things done rather than political fights. That’s the defining ethic I’ve applied to my career:

·       I earned my business degree from the University of Texas at Austin before graduating from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

·       After years in private practice, I serve as in-house counsel for the family business and head up data and analytics to ensure fact-based decision making.

·       I initiated a cost savings health care initiative that gives our employees free access to a doctor and health education to help them manage diseases like diabetes.

·       I’m a community volunteer, supporting the STARS scholarship program, and served on the Boards of Gladys Porter Zoo and the Museum of South Texas.

I believe strong families, strong communities, and good business go hand-in-hand.  South Texas is the workforce of Texas’ future. We’re leaders in space exploration, renewable energy, international trade, not to mention the produce capital that feeds the nation. That’s why I’m fighting to expand access to affordable health care, support our teachers and public schools, and help small businesses come back form the pandemic and grow. Others may count us out, but in South Texas we know when we stand by our families, there’s nothing we can’t do.
