McALLEN, Texas – McAllen Public Library invites everyone to their Summer Reading Challenge Kick-Off Renaissance Faire at the Main Library, 4001 N 23rd St., McAllen, Texas, on Saturday, June 6, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Free and open to all ages, the fantasy-themed event will feature a live play by The Player’s Studio, plus crafts, games, snacks, and family activities. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite fantasy, fairy tale, or medieval-inspired characters as the library transforms for a morning of imagination and adventure, with Marty the Library Cat reigning as “King Marty”.

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme is “Unearth a Story.” Open to children, teens, and adults, the program encourages the community to read throughout the summer, earn prizes, and participate in library activities. The challenge runs from June 1 through July 10 at all McAllen Public Library (MPL) locations.

“The Summer Reading Challenge is all about making reading exciting and memorable for families,” said Kate Horan, Library Director. “From books and prizes to our Ren Faire Kick-Off, we want the community to have fun, get creative, and enjoy spending time at the library this summer.”

Tawil. “Programs like the Summer Reading Challenge ensure young readers remain engaged throughout the summer while building confidence, curiosity, and a stronger connection to education.”
