McAllen’s 2018 City Poet Laureate, Edward Vidaurre, received the traditional stipend from the McAllen Chamber of Commerce for his service.

The purpose of the Poet Laureate program is to foster and support the literary arts, said Nancy Millar, Vice President and Director of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce’s Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, which oversees the Chamber’s arts program. “We have so much creative talent here in McAllen,” Millar said. “This program helps promote the literary artists, and hopefully also encourages more up and coming poets and writers to pursue their crafts.”

Vidaurre, McAllen’s third Poet Laureate, is available for presentations and special events. His term lasts through the 2018 calendar year.
