EDINBURG, Texas – The Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office launched an important initiative to help victims of family violence to access important resource information with a simple QR Code.

“We know that everyone in our community has access to a cell phone so we created a QR Code that can be scanned to access vital information that will give victims of family violence resources that can help them leave abusive relationships,” said Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios.

“It is important that victims know that they have options and are informed of their rights and how to access resources to help them,” Palacios said.

Prevention education and having resources in English and Spanish is crucial for victims planning on leaving abusive relationships.

“We know that leaving an abusive relationship does not equal safety and victims need to speak to an Advocate to develop a safety plan before they leave,” Palacios said.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are a victim of family violence please seek help, call 1-800-799-7233; said Rosie Martinez, victims Unit Director.”
