EDINBURG, TX – Need a place to study?  Home Wi-Fi isn’t working? Then come on over and request a spot in the Empowerment Resource Center (ERC) at the Sekula Memorial Library.  The ERC offers ten workstations for patrons to use for work, schoolwork, and test-taking purposes.

Made possible thanks to the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) Cares Grant, the Empowerment Resource Center (ERC) is available from 9:00 am until 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Each of the ten workstations is for a single patron to use and is available to children and adults, though anyone under thirteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Workstations are spaced six feet apart and include a desk, chair, and a clear divider on the desk to help with separation and social distancing.  Also, if you need assistance, don’t hesitate to ask one of our Library staff who will be more than happy to assist you.

While the ERC itself does not have a place to charge devices (laptops, tablets, smartphones), the library does have separate charging stations where patrons can sit and charge their devices for forty-five minutes.  As with anyone entering the library, ERC users must wear a mask at all times, pass a temperature screening, and answer a few simple questions before using the library facilities.

Patrons can either walk-in to see if there is a workstation available or reserve a workstation twenty-four hours in advance; the library does not take reservations for multiple days in advance.

The Sekula Memorial Library is located at 1906 South Closner Blvd in Edinburg, Texas.  For more information about the ERC and other library services, please call 956-383-6246.  You can also access the library’s website at www.cityofedinburg.com/library.
