Dutch Bros Coffee, a national drive-thru coffee chain, now operates 12 locations in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) as of June 2025. The expansion is part of the company’s broader growth strategy, which includes reaching 2,029 shops by 2029 and an eventual U.S. potential of more than 7,000 locations. The company reached 1,000 stores in February 2024, 33 years after opening its first in Grants Pass, Oregon. Since going public in 2021, Dutch Bros has nearly doubled its footprint and continues to open at least 30 new locations per quarter.
The brand’s approach centers on internal leadership development, with a pipeline of 450 operator candidates and an average tenure of over seven years. In 2024, Dutch Bros expanded its real estate and construction teams and hired former KFC U.S. CDO Brian Cahoe to help lead site development efforts. These moves aim to support faster store rollouts and optimize new market entries.
In the RGV region of South Texas, Dutch Bros operates one store in the following cities: Rio Grande City, Mission, Palmhurst, Penitas, San Juan, Edinburg, Alamo, Donna, Weslaco, and Harlingen. McAllen currently has two locations.
