EL PASO, TX – The Downtown Management District (DMD) is bringing back the Downtown Fresh Air Food Court thanks to the City of El Paso and the CARES Act. The initial 18-day pilot program supported Downtown brick and mortar food and beverage businesses by expanding seating capacity and providing customers with a safe, sanitized, and socially distanced dining experience. This time around the Downtown amenity will run daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday from August 27th through December 30th

The pilot program was funded by the DMD and sponsorships from Downtown supporters, but is now funded by a CARES Act Grant in response to COVID-19, to support local businesses, and to offer additional seating to enjoy food and beverage al fresco, while remaining in Downtown El Paso. The public is encouraged to purchase food and drink from local Downtown restaurants and cafés, then dine in the socially distanced, sanitized, fresh air, on-street seating area, now located on Mills Avenue, between Mesa and Oregon Street, South of San Jacinto Plaza.

“We recognize the need to support Downtown brick and mortar businesses as they struggle to operate during the current pandemic. Our pilot program taught us that El Pasoans are still interested in experiencing our great downtown restaurants while doing so in a safe and responsible manner. Now the public can continue to enjoy Downtown food and drink through the remainder of the year in a safe, sanitized and socially distanced dining area,” Joe Gudenrath, DMD Executive Director.
