Council Recognizes a Local Football Coach and an Animal Control Officer

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo City Council convened in the first regular meeting in 2022. During the meeting, a special recognition was presented to Coach Joe Coss for being selected as the 2021 Coach of the Year. Coach Coss has been leading the United South High School Football Team as their Head Coach and campus coordinator. For four consecutive years, USHS Panthers qualified to the playoffs, led by Coach Coss. Furthermore, the Panthers have achieved multiple awards, including this year’s District Champions, Bi-District Champions, and Area Champions. Members of the Laredo City Council presented a special certificate to congratulate Coach Coss for his remarkable leadership and for being an exceptional role model to the USHS community.

Additionally, City Council Members presented a special recognition to Jose E. Aranda, an Animal Control Officer at the Laredo Animal Care Services Department, saving the lives of 45 cats during an unfortunate fire at the animal shelter facility. His courage and prompt actions, risking his own life to protect these pets, is merit and is recognized by his Supervisor, Director Karina Elizondo, and all members of the Council.

Lastly, the City of Laredo and Mayor Pete Saenz and the Public Information Office would like to invite the community to watch the 2022 Annual State of the City Address. Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, the City will follow the same protocol as last year with no in-person event. Instead, a one-hour-long program where achievements from various departments will be showcased including interviews from Mayor Pete Saenz, City Council members, and City directors. This event will be broadcast Live on Television by KGNS/Telemundo on Monday, January 31, 2022, starting at 6:00 PM. Also, Laredo’s Laredo TV (Public Access Channel) and Facebook page will be streaming this event.
