WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded the City of Hidalgo and Hidalgo Economic Development Corporation $1,200,000 for infrastructure and employment projects.

This EDA investment will support the construction of a water and sewer system and new road in the City of Hidalgo. The improvements will ease the long-term economic distress in the area and support private investment and job creation throughout the region.

“Now, more than ever, areas in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley are making strides to improve infrastructure and create new jobs,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “This investment will bring more than new roads and water systems, it will improve the overall quality of life for every resident in the City of Hidalgo.”

The Hidalgo Infrastructure Project is expected to yield 100 new jobs, save 100 more, and leverage $20,000,000 in private investment.

EDA grants are awarded through a competitive process based upon the application’s merit, the applicant’s eligibility, and the availability of funds. For more information on the EDA’s grant and investment proves, visit www.eda.gov or call (202) 482-2900.
