Yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott announced federal funding assistance for local jurisdictions.

The announcement included the letter (attached below) that was sent to mayors and county judges explaining the allocation method and application process.

Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa was appointed to the workgroup charged with making recommendations regarding the distribution of the CARES Act funds. Senator Hinojosa released the following statement regarding his appointment and the letter to local government entities:

“I appreciate Governor Abbott appointing me to the budget workgroup charged with making recommendations to distribute the CARES Act funding to our local government entities. For more than two weeks we have had daily conference calls to come up with the guidelines and framework to distribute the funds in an equitable and transparent way. This letter represents the outcome of our work and discussions to distribute the funding to help our communities pay off coronavirus expenses. While it does not pay for revenue loss, it does go a long way to focus on covering health care expenses that are very much needed by our families.”

Information on how to apply for funding, as well as guidance about eligible uses, can be found at the following website www.tdem.texas.gov/crf.
