Baseball Kicks Off with Fireworks

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas –  University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday 18 promotional games throughout the upcoming baseball season, starting with a fireworks celebration, presented by the City of Edinburg, after Friday’s 7 p.m. season opener against George Washington at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

There will be several recurring promotions, such as the Cane’s Challenge. Whenever the Vaqueros win a Friday home game, all fans in the ballpark will receive coupons for buy one, get one free box combos at Raising Cane’s on their way out.

Four of UTRGV’s five Tuesday home games will be $2 Tuesdays, featuring $2 general admission tickets and select concession items for $2 or less.

Friday Feb. 18, 7 p.m. vs. George Washington

Opening Night

•UTRGV baseball celebrates the start of the 2022 season with a postgame fireworks show, presented by the City of Edinburg. Fireworks will also be shot off after the national anthem.

•UTRGV and legacy institution alumni are invited to come to a mixer starting at 5 p.m. featuring music by Ricky J and Desert Bloom.

•The 1971 College World Series team will be honored on the field prior to the game

•The 2022 Hall of Fame and Hall of Honor induction class will throw out ceremonial first pitches.

Friday, March 4, 7 p.m. vs. Youngstown State

Friends & Family Four Packs

•Friends & family four packs, including four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks will be available for just $25.

Saturday, March 5, 12 p.m. Doubleheader vs. Youngstown State

Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day

•Current UTRGV faculty & staff receive free admission to both games by showing their employee ID at the box office.

Tuesday, March 8, 6:30 p.m. vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union

•The first 200 fans receive #BeatCorpus t-shirts.

•$2 Tuesday

Friday, March 11, 7 p.m. vs. Abilene Christian

WAC Opener

•Friends & family four packs, including four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks will be available for just $25.

•Cane’s Challenge

Friday, March 25, 7 p.m. vs. Lamar

Pride in the Park Night

•The first 300 fans in attendance receive rainbow wristbands, courtesy of the UTRGV Office for Advocacy & Violence Prevention (OVAVP).

• OVAVP will host in-game programming to celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion.

•Winners of Greek Week will be honored with throwing out ceremonial first pitches.

Youth Sports Night

• Children 13 and younger wearing any team jersey or t-shirt will receive discounted $3 admission.

•The first 250 fans in attendance will receive Selena koozies, courtesy of UTRGV Alumni Relations.

•There will be Selena music and Selena themed trivia and bingo throughout the night.

•Friends & family four packs, including four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks will be available for just $25.

Sunday, April 10, 12 p.m. vs. Stephen F. Austin

Autism Awareness Day

•UTRGV Athletics is partnering with the School of Rehabilitation Services and Counseling to provide education to about autism spectrum disorder and local resources available. 

•Fans wearing blue can purchase discounted $3 general admission tickets.

•Free admission for frontline workers and first responders.

Saturday, May 14, 6 p.m. vs. Sam Houston

Superhero/Character Night

•All fans dressed as their favorite superheroes and comic book characters will receive free general admission, courtesy of Kaboom Comics.

Sunday, May 15, 12 p.m. vs. Sam Houston

Senior Day

•Come early as we celebration our graduating senior class with a special on-field ceremony.
