McAllen, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF-RGV) will be hosting an advertising and marketing conference at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in McAllen this September 27th– 29th.  Titled “Deep Shift 2018” the conference will focus on how the advertising landscape continues to change as new technologies develop and consumer preferences change.

Deep Shift 2018 will feature speakers from industry giants such as Adobe and Amazon. The keynote speaker is Colin Gaul, who grew up in Harlingen and now is the Group Creative Director for Amazon’s Cross-Channel Marketing Team.

Other speakers include Tommy Teepell the Chief Marketing Executive of Lamar Outdoor Advertising, and Caitlyn Perry the Director of Integrated Marketing at Texas Monthly.

Covering a range of topics from marketing to a culturally diverse audience, to how businesses can attract and handle media coverage; Deep Shift 2018 presents a valuable opportunity for marketing professionals and small business owners alike to learn, network, and have a bit of fun.

The conference will kick off with a welcoming party hosted by La Plaza Mall on Thursday, September 27thfor an evening of shopping, conversation, food, and drinks.

Colin Gaul – Group Creative Director for Amazon’s Cross Channel Marketing Team

Colin Gaul is a Rio Grande Valley native whose career has taken him from his roots in Harlingen, TX to New York, Seattle and beyond. He leads the global creative development for Amazon’s Entertainment initiatives including Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Music, entertainment integrations, as well as emerging markets and technologies like Alexa.

When asked about his presentation topic, Colin says, “It will have something to do with storytelling in the digital age – Helping the world understand new tech through advertising.

George Zweirko – Principal Rumbo Cultural Marketing

Born in the Bronx and spent most of his years growing up surrounded by enough concrete to probably circle the globe 100 times. After serving in the U.S. Army, Zweirko came back and restarted his advertising career in Tampa, Florida.

“I’ve been fortunate to have been recognized with national creative awards, and while accolades are great, it doesn’t beat being a father to three beautiful children. In a nutshell, I’m a father, painter, diver, traveller, juggler, amateur chef and avid storyteller,” he said.

Pam Atherton

Pam Atherton is a 17-time award-winning radio and television personality, whose guests have included astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes, Weird Al, Willie Nelson, and Cher. She was the first female morning show host for radio in the Portland, OR radio market.

In addition to recording voiceovers and producing weekly interviews, Pam speaks across the nation as a keynote and workshop leader about marketing, customer satisfaction, business identity, leadership, and dealing with the media. As a media strategist, she has over 20 years of experience training experts, authors, and celebrities on how to successfully engage the media in interview situations, and how to handle a crisis with the media.

Josh Loebner – Director of Strategy Designsensory

Josh serves as Director of Strategy at Designsensory and shares conversations across the country on diversity and inclusion in advertising. He is earning his Ph.D. from Clemson University focusing on advertising and disability is also adjunct faculty teaching media strategy at the University of Tennessee. He is author of the blog Advertising and Disability and is a noted advocate, speaker and resource on the subject of disability, diversity and advertising for journalists, educators and industry leaders. He is partially blind and visually impaired, which gives him a unique perspective and he always clearly sees the best in everyone.

Matthew Rayback – Associate Creative Director at Adobe

Matthew oversees creative and content development for Adobe Analytics Cloud and the Adobe Cloud Platform. With 15 years of experience in writing, editing, publishing, and content marketing, he spends most of his time evangelizing the power of storytelling, design, and creativity.

Tommy Teepell – Chief Marketing Officer, Lamar Advertising Company

Tommy is the Chief Marketing Officer for Lamar Advertising, one of the nation’s leading out-of-home advertising companies. Lamar Advertising provides solutions for customers in the form of Billboards, Digital, Transit and Highway Logo Signs. Tommy received the outdoor advertising industry’s highest honor when he was awarded the L. Ray Vahue Marketing Award and named to the OAAA HALL OF FAME. In 2013, he received the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) E.A. Pete Goldsby Silver Award, which is presented annually by the AAF to the person who has made the greatest overall lifetime contribution to the Baton Rouge advertising profession.

Caitlyn Perry – Director of Integrated Marketing at Texas Monthly

Caitlyn Perry is the Director of Integrated Marketing at Texas Monthly. She is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction in growing innovative marketing solutions for new and current clients. Perry works alongside Texas Monthly Account Directors and advertisers to ensure all print and digital campaigns meet and exceed their expectations.
