PHOENIX, AZ – University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team finished tied for 15th to close out the Grand Canyon University (GCU) Invitational on Tuesday at GCU Golf Course.
The Vaqueros finished tied with UTEP with a three-round score of 924 after carding a final round 308. Both UTRGV and UTEP finished six shots back of Portland State for 14th place.
Freshman Maria Jose Ramirez posted a final round 77 to finished tied for 46th leading the Vaqueros with a three-round score of 228. Sophomore Samantha Garza finished one shot back of Ramirez with a three-round score of 229 after carding a team-best one-over par 73 as she finished tied for 55th.
Sophomore Sophia Tejeda came in tied for 68th with a three-round score of 232 after turning in a final round 78. Sophomore Mercedes Vega finished with a three-round score of 238 after a final round 80 to finish tied for 80th.
Graduate student Rachel Yu finished in 97th with a three-round score of 250 after a final round 88.
Host Grand Canyon held on to win the team title with a three-round score of 860 after posting a final round 290. Grand Canyon’s Alexis Linam took home the individual title with a three-round score of 213 after a final round 69.
The Vaqueros will be back in action from March 7-8 when they host the UTRGV Invitational at McAllen Country Club.
