Below a letter written by Senator Hinojosa just sent to Texas Department of Insurance Commissioner Mattax regarding a proposal from Texas Farm Bureau that would allow for a 25% reduction on a homeowner’s insurance premium in exchange for mandatory binding arbitration (which gives up your right to sue).
Senator Hinojosa is against this proposal which specifically affects only South Texas and border counties. The hearing at TDI is today and a decision will be made by the Commissioner in the coming days.
The letter highlights why this proposal would be bad for South Texas/RGV homeowners.
