Congressman speaks about importance of international trade with Mexico and Canada

 WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) spoke at the 6th Annual Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHILI) Trade and International Affairs Symposium about the need for Americans to support global trade and the special and productive relationship that the United States shares with its neighbors, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking broadly about the benefits of NAFTA and other free trade agreements, Congressman Cuellar touched on how trade agreements benefit the United States, both long-term and short-term, and how NAFTA has already brought revenue and jobs into the country.

He then went on to praise the bipartisan nature of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership institute and thanked the sponsors and logistical support that goes into supporting organizations like CHILI.

“The tides of globalization are already shifting in this country, whether we choose to acknowledge it or not,” said Congressman Cuellar. “We have a tremendous opportunity to expand trade and bring better jobs and for consumers.
