PHARR, Texas – In a first-of-its-kind statewide recognition highlighting the most impactful assistant coaches in Texas high school football, PSJA ISD’s Brett Esparza has been named to the inaugural Texas 50, placing him among an elite group of 50 coaches selected from thousands across the state.

Esparza joins 49 others from across the state in this first-ever class, recognized for their impact on student-athlete development, leadership, and commitment to building strong, successful programs.

“The Texas 50 honor is truly humbling because it represents far more than individual recognition. It reflects the collective work of building and contributing to championship-level programs,” said Coach Esparza. “Being named to the inaugural Texas 50 is not a finish line, but a commitment to continue raising the standards I set to make a difference in our students’ lives.”

Coach Esparza brought more than 12 years of coaching experience to PSJA North Early College High School. He recognized early on that the district aligned with his vision for building a strong, values-driven program. He believes coaching is rooted in service, high standards, and making a lasting impact on students.

Raised in a household that valued athletics as a powerful platform to shape young people, Esparza credits his father, also a coach, for instilling key principles such as accountability, preparation, and consistency. He emphasizes that teaching and coaching go hand in hand.

“As an assistant coach, your role is to align with the program’s vision, elevate its standards, and bring value every day,” said Coach Esparza. “Being part of programs with consistent playoff success, district championships, and strong athlete development has reinforced that winning is built in the details. Ultimately, it’s about building a program that lasts and developing individuals who carry those standards forward.”

On the field, he emphasizes preparation, execution, and completing every rep. Esparza believes success does not happen by chance; it is built through consistent habits and a relentless approach to improvement. Off the field, he strives to develop responsible, disciplined, and community-minded individuals. For him, it is about sustaining a culture where success is expected, standards are upheld, and every athlete is prepared to compete and succeed in life.

The Texas 50, presented by the Taylor Collective, recognizes assistant coaches from classifications 1A through 6A who play a critical role in advancing their programs and supporting their communities. Honorees were selected by a panel of respected leaders in Texas for high school football.

As part of this recognition, Esparza will participate in a four-part Master Class Series this April, culminating in a capstone event on June 17 in Waco, Texas. The initiative aims to connect and invest in top coaching talent across the state.

PSJA ISD congratulates Coach Esparza on this achievement and for continuing to represent the district with excellence.
