McAllen, Texas — Voters in McAllen ISD have approved the district’s $335 million bond program in the May 2 election, supporting investments in modernizing campuses, expanding Career and Technical Education opportunities, strengthening school safety and security, enhancing fine arts facilities, and addressing critical infrastructure needs across the district.

The approved bond, Proposition A ($335 million), is organized across five priority areas and includes Career and Technical Education expansions at all three high schools, secured entrances and upgraded safety systems, new fine arts multi-purpose facilities, classroom additions to reduce portable buildings, and districtwide infrastructure improvements such as HVAC, roofing, lighting, and drainage.

“This result reflects the confidence our community has placed in McAllen ISD and its schools,” said Dr. René Gutiérrez, Superintendent of McAllen ISD. “We are grateful to every resident who took the time to stay informed and participate. This investment will strengthen our campuses and expand opportunities for our students.”

The bond program was developed through a comprehensive internal facilities assessment and planning process involving district leadership, staff, and the Board of Trustees. The plan focused on addressing long-standing facility needs, aligning improvements with district priorities, and supporting the district’s long-term goals.

With voter approval, McAllen ISD will move into the next phase of implementation, including detailed design, project sequencing, and construction planning. The district is committed to providing regular updates and clear communication throughout the process.

“We are committed to responsible stewardship of this investment and clear communication throughout the process,” Gutiérrez said. “Our focus now is on delivering these projects in a way that best supports our students and schools.” For more information about the bond program and next steps, visit www.mcallenisdbond.org.
