McAllen, Texas — In an industry where longevity is rare and change is constant, McCreery Aviation’s 80-year milestone stands as a powerful testament to resilience, vision, and community roots in the Rio Grande Valley. On April 10, 2026, business leaders, public officials, longtime customers, and family members gathered at McAllen International Airport to celebrate not just a company anniversary, but a legacy deeply woven into the region’s economic and aviation history.

That legacy began in 1946, when Mac McCreery, a World War II flight and gunnery instructor, and his wife Ardath opened a modest flight school in Mercedes, Texas. Recognizing the Valley’s strategic location and favorable flying conditions, the couple relocated to McAllen in 1948. From those early days, the business grew steadily, evolving alongside the airport, the city, and the South Texas region into a cornerstone of aviation services.

Over the decades, leadership passed to the next generation, with Bob McCreery carrying forward his parents’ vision. Under his guidance, the company expanded its services, modernized operations, and adapted to shifting economic cycles and industry demands.

“First of all, you may hear some airplane noise—my apologies, but we are at an airport. That’s progress,” Bob McCreery said with a smile. “Eighty years is a responsibility that we truly appreciate… and we look forward to continuing what’s been built and making it even better.” He added his gratitude to attendees: “It’s truly heartwarming to see all of you… we sincerely appreciate your support.”

The event itself reflected the company’s far-reaching impact. The airport hangar filled with familiar faces—past employees, retirees, business partners, and community leaders—all gathered to honor a shared history.

Liz Suarez of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce captured the spirit of the moment:

“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree long ago. That perfectly reflects what we’re celebrating here. McAllen International Airport consistently ranks among the top 10 commercial airports in Texas, and that success would not be possible without the strong collaboration we share with McCreery. It is, without question, a true partnership.”

Mike Willis

Mike Willis, Director of the South Texas Manufacturers Association, emphasized the company’s bigger role in the business ecosystem, calling McCreery Aviation a successful “homegrown” enterprise and highlighting the importance of private aviation in supporting regional industry and connectivity.

For longtime friend and retired banker Paul Moxley, the milestone carried personal meaning:

“This has really been good. Eighty years is a long time. I knew Bob’s dad when he was here, and Bob and Margie have continued that success. It’s amazing to see a business still here in the Valley after all these years.”

Ike Tawil

Local officials echoed those sentiments. McAllen City Manager Isaac Tawil said:

“McAllen has grown alongside McCreery Aviation—they are truly part of the fabric of this community. Their contributions have been integral to the development of the airport and, by extension, the growth of our city.”

Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez pointed to the company’s enduring business philosophy:

“If you provide good service at a fair price with a positive attitude, you’ll always stay in business—and that perfectly describes McCreery Aviation. They’ve consistently done an outstanding job serving the community.”

Ralph Garcia

From the economic development perspective, Ralph Garcia highlighted the company’s reputation:

“Over the years, we’ve seen many industry clients use their services and consistently praise the level of care they receive. Whether addressing mechanical issues or accommodating visitors, the experience has always been positive and professional.”

Judge Richard Cortez

The personal stories shared throughout the celebration added depth to the company’s legacy. Allen Stoner, a lifelong friend of Bob McCreery, reflected on the rarity of such success:

“The average family business lasts 20 to 25 years. For McCreery Aviation to reach 80 years—that’s more than three times that—is proof of their dedication and vision. They’ve touched so many lives across the Valley.”

John Wright

Business owner John Wright underscored the challenges behind that longevity:

“Reaching a milestone like 80 years is truly extraordinary—especially considering all the economic cycles, from currency fluctuations to weather impacts, and the tremendous growth of the Valley and Mexico. It’s a real testament to Bob, his father, and the entire team.”

Tony Aguirre

McAllen City Commissioner Tony Aguirre highlighted the deep community ties:

“The McCreery family has been part of McAllen for generations. Their story is connected to the growth of our city. They’ve given so much to this community, and McAllen has supported them in return. It’s a beautiful relationship.”

At the heart of the celebration was family continuity. Laura McCreery Pulido, Bob’s daughter and the company’s HR and Operations Manager, spoke about the meaning of the moment:

Paul Moxley

“We are truly overwhelmed by the turnout. It means so much to see so many people come out to support us and celebrate this milestone. Being part of a family business that has been in business for 80 years is very special. It’s a legacy I’m very proud of, and we’re committed to continuing it.”

Standing beside her was her daughter, Elle—symbolizing a new generation connected to the company’s future.

As the event concluded with applause, photographs, and shared memories, the message was clear: McCreery Aviation’s success is not just measured in years, but in relationships, service, and its lasting impact on the region.

Allen Stoner

Eighty years after its founding, the company remains a vital part of regional aviation—supporting business travel, economic development, and cross-border connectivity. And as a new generation steps forward, the legacy established by Mac and Ardath McCreery—and carried on by Bob—appears well-positioned to continue shaping the future of aviation in South Texas for decades to come.
