EDINBURG – The Edinburg Rotary Club recently recognized the top students from the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District’s Career and Technical Educational (CTE) Department.

“We are very excited that Edinburg Rotary, one of our community entities, wants to recognize the accomplishments of the students and recognize all their hard work and their effort,” CTE Director Arminda Lozano said. “October is our month and we already know and look forward to bringing our students over to the Rotary meeting.”

The students’ recognition is part of the Edinburg Rotary’s Student of the Month Program, which is held during the community service organization’s luncheon meeting at the Echo Hotel.

“I think it’s a fantastic program that we have in partnership with the school district,” said Edinburg Rotarian Mike Sanchez. “It highlights the students and that’s what it’s all about. The students are number one.”

During the presentation, Rotarians learned about some of the more than 150 CTE career oriented courses offered at Edinburg CISD. They also heard from the students, who spoke about their experiences, accomplishments and future plans.

“The Pharmacy Tech program is an excellent program,” said Sanchez, who is a pharmacist. “They send them on to our pharmacies. They rotate through our pharmacies and they get to do everything a pharmacy technician gets to do. And they learn a skill that is very valuable.”

Sanchez said that he has hired approximately five students as pharmacy technicians after they completed their program.
