Texas Border Business

Weslaco, TX – Dentists Who Care (DWC) has received a $50,000 contribution from DentaQuest, the largest dental benefits administrator in Texas, serving 2.4 million members, to continue free dental care for children and families in need in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It has always been Dentists Who Care’s mission to improve and enhance the quality of life for low-income families who have no dental insurance through access to oral health care,” said Jacqueline Flores, Executive Director, Dentists Who Care. “We are able to do this thanks to over 200 dentists and their dental assistants who donate their services on the Dentists Who Care mobile dental unit or in their dental offices. And it is all done at no cost to the families, thanks to the support of our community and national leaders like DentaQuest.”

“As the nation’s leading oral health organization, DentaQuest is honored to work with Dentists Who Care and other local partners across the state who are helping millions of Texans manage through a particularly challenging period,” said DentaQuest President and CEO Steve Pollock. “The volunteer dental care teams of Dentists Who Care are critically important to the health of families in Rio Grande Valley. Poor oral health has a direct link to higher risks of chronic illnesses, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and more. We believe it is important to support a strong and resilient oral health community.”

During the pandemic, DentaQuest has supported Texans with over $400,000 in contributions to the OneStar Foundation Texas COVID Relief Fund, the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation which organizes Missions of Mercy free care clinics across the state, the Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dentists Who Care, and Feeding Texas regional food banks in Central Texas, El Paso, Houston, North Texas and San Antonio.
