BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The City of Brownsville’s Fire Department has been awarded the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Achievement Award, marking the third consecutive year the department has earned this prestigious national recognition.
The award reflects the department’s continued commitment to providing exceptional emergency medical care to patients experiencing cardiac arrest, heart attacks, strokes, and other time-sensitive cardiovascular and neurological emergencies.
The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program recognizes EMS agencies that demonstrate excellence in the rapid assessment, treatment, and transport of patients suffering from life-threatening medical emergencies. To achieve Gold level designation, EMS agencies must meet strict national performance standards for prehospital emergency care, including rapid symptom identification, early lifesaving interventions, coordinated communication with hospitals, and adherence to evidence-based treatment guidelines that improve patient survival and recovery outcomes.
“Earning this recognition for a third consecutive year is a powerful reflection of the professionalism, training, and dedication of the Brownsville Fire Department,” said Alan Guard, ICMA-CM, CGFO, Brownsville Interim City Manager. “Our community depends on our first responders during some of the most critical moments of their lives, and this award demonstrates that Brownsville residents are being served by EMS professionals who are committed to the highest standards of care.”
Receiving the Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Achievement Award requires sustained high performance, accurate data reporting, continuous quality improvement, and strong coordination among EMS personnel, emergency departments, cardiac centers, and stroke centers. The recognition highlights the Brownsville Fire Department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency medical response and improve outcomes for patients across the city.
“This achievement belongs to the men and women of the Brownsville Fire Department EMS Division,” said Chief Jarrett Sheldon, Brownsville Fire Department. “Their hard work, advanced training, teamwork, and commitment to clinical excellence continue to save lives every day. Being recognized at the Gold level for three consecutive years shows the consistency and dedication our EMS personnel bring to every call.”
Through a 28-Agreement, both teams are extending that same level of service beyond Brownsville city limits. They are taking calls from residents across Cameron County, when needed.
The City of Brownsville congratulates the Brownsville Fire Department EMS Division for this outstanding achievement and for its continued service to the health, safety, and well-being of the Brownsville community.
